About Dr. Yang

Ophthalmologist

Dr. Yang earned his M.D. from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and completed his residency training at Stanford, where he served as chief resident.  He was drawn to Ophthalmology as a way to care for people in a transformative way, through impacting the vision that is so vital to each patient’s quality of life.  He appreciates the opportunity to provide conscientious medical eye care and cutting-edge surgery.

Dr. Yang has a significant background in research and academics.  He has first-authored research publications in leading journals in his specialty, including Archives of Ophthalmology (now JAMA Ophthalmology), the British Journal of Ophthalmology, and IOVS (Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences).  He has also served as a reviewer for IOVS, one of the foremost vision research publications in his field.  Dr. Yang has been a speaker at both national and international conferences.  Prior to his medical career, he also worked as a biopharmaceutical researcher on humanized antibodies, which are today used to treat a wide range of conditions including eye disease.

Dr. Yang is a native of the Bay Area and has many fond childhood memories of his frequent visits to Chinatown.  It is these deep cultural connections and his interest in community health that drew him to serving the Chinatown community.  He was drawn to community and public health while attaining his Masters in Public Health degree at U.C. Berkeley and completing a public health internship in the Prevention of Blindness and Visual Impairment group at the WHO (World Health Organization) in Geneva, Switzerland.  He has performed medical research or provided clinical care around the world including Ethiopia, India, and China.  He also formerly led a community preceptorship program for UCSF medical students to provide them with insight into community health.

Dr. Yang has now wholeheartedly devoted his career to improving the ocular health of the San Francisco Chinatown community, the greater immigrant Chinese-speaking community, and beyond.  His daily mission is to provide care that is culturally competent, compassionate, and highly capable.
